Automotive Technology CTE Program Awarded $404,034 State Grant

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Medford High School (MHS) Automotive Technology Vocational program has been awarded a $404,034 grant as part of the Massachusetts Skills Capital Grants program.

The grant will be used by the auto tech program to purchase new equipment and tools, including equipment to support learning on electric vehicles and hybrid engines.

“We are very appreciative of this large donation from the Governor’s office in support of our students,” said Chad Fallon, executive director of career & technical education (CTE) at Medford High School. “Being able to provide the newest materials for our students and staff is fundamental to our mission as educational leaders. Enabling our auto tech students to work on electric vehicles will provide our students with hands-on experience they can use in their future careers.”

The grant was awarded as part of a $13.5 million grant distribution to 66 different high school, colleges, and educational or workforce organizations across the Commonwealth. According to the Governor’s Office, the mission of this latest grant cycle was funding for purchasing and installing modern equipment that supports CTE programming and training. Medford’s $404,034 award was the second highest total received by any school in the state.

“This grant award is another testament to the continual strength of our CTE community, curriculum and staff,” said Dr. Suzanne B. Galusi, interim superintendent of Medford Public Schools. “Mr. Fallon and his team work incredibly hard to prepare students for life beyond Medford High School. Thank you to the Governor’s Office and our Grant team for making this dream a reality.”

The new equipment will be installed while being mindful of the new Medford High School Building Project. Medford is currently working with architectural firm SMMA as part of the MSBA Feasibility Phase, and no design plans for a new building have been created or published at this time.

Medford Public Schools (MPS) would like to thank Mr. Fallon, Sam Christy, Brian Cassidy, Gina Citrano and Susan Callahan for their work on this grant. It is the fourth time the Vocational school has received Skills Capital Grant funding, with previous awards being given to the Culinary ($500k), Engineering ($300k) and Construction & Craft Laborers ($300k) programs.
