Community service opportunity through AM2PM!
The Mayor's office is looking for volunteers to help distribute rain barrels to help the environment and earn service hours. The volunteering will be on Wednesday, May 10th at Medford High School. All volunteer hours will count towards community service time required by Medford High School.
West Medford Open Studios is looking for volunteers for their art festival on June 24th at Duggar Park, between 9:30 AM - 6:30 PM with a rain date of June 25th. Students can email volunteer@wmos.org if they are interested. You can also visit their website for more information about WMOS.

ONE TIME. Bikes Not Bombs is a non-profit organization working for alternative transportation and community development. Esplanade Association
OCCASIONAL. SUMMER. The Esplanade Association’s Green Team helps with upkeep of Boston’s historic Esplanade, the park that borders the Charles River adjacent to the Back Bay, with cleanups, planting days, and special events scheduled throughout the year. The Boston Model Sailing Club needs volunteers Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons to help the public operate remote-controlled model boats in the Esplanade Lagoon.

Food Project
SCHOOLYEAR. ONE TIME. The Food Project grows and distributes 160,000 pounds of food each year, and relies on 1,500 volunteers. Students age 17+ can volunteer individually; younger students can participate on individual volunteer days; the volunteer schedule can be found on the website.

Friends of the Middlesex Fells Reservation

Friends of the Fells is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enhance the natural and historic resources of the Fells by educating the public about the natural, cultural, and appropriate recreational features in the Fells. Mystic river Watershed Association
OCCASIONAL. The Mystic River Watershed Association is working to make the Mystic “fishable and swimmable” by 2010. Volunteers are needed for regular river bank cleanups, and to help with the annual spring Herring Run, which includes a road race, a paddle race on the river, and fun onshore activities.

People Making a Diffeerence through Community Service

Samaritans
SCHOOLYEAR. SUMMER. OCCASIONAL. The Samaritans is the Greater Boston area’s suicide preention organization. Samaritans’ purpose is to alleviate despair, isolation, distress and suicidal feelings among individuals in our community, 24 hours a day; to educate the public about suicide prevention; and to reduce the stigma associated with suicide. Samariteens are volunteers ages 15-18 who staff the teen hotline from 3-9pm each day, and also help with events and administrative work.

OCCASIONAL. WGBH is one of the nation’s top public television and public radio broadcasters. Volunteers are regularly needed for fundraising pledge drives, and to help with the annual auction in June, a five–day televised event that raises funds for WGBH programing and that requires more than 4,000 volunteers helping to solicit, present, and sell more than 6,000 donations. Each September, volunteers help with the annual Ice Cream FunFest.
