College Testing
PSAT/SAT and ACT
PSAT/SAT:
- Duration: 3 hrs. 50 mins.
- Cost: $68 (includes Essay)
- Three sections: Critical Reading, Math, Writing and Essay (total possible score-2400)
- Website: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat
Recommended Testing Schedule for the SAT:
All students are recommended to take the PSAT in October of their Sophomore and again their Junior year. It gives practice for the SAT without the cost of the SAT and without colleges ever receiving the scores. It is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Program.
We recommend students take the SAT at least twice, once during the Spring of their Junior Year, and again in the Fall of their Senior Year. Many colleges are currently SAT-optional, meaning students can apply and choose whether or not to submit their scores. We recommend checking each the colleges to which you are applying to verify their testing requirements. Colleges have reported that students who do not submit SAT scores are not at a disadvantage when admissions decisions are made.
ACT

- Cost:
- $68 without writing
- $93 with writing
- Four sections: English, Math, Reading and Science Reasoning (total possible score-36)
